We finally were able to take make our first trip out to the Alaskan Viallage of Minto! We had a great time! We went with our friends, the Hart family, Joey Hart grew up in Minto as his father used to be the missionary pastor there! We went to learn about the culture, meet the elders, and have an outreach for the children. Friday we got in and rode around the village before getting settled in for the weekend. Saturday we held two outreaches, much like Kids Church, for the kids in town. The first service we only had a hand full of kids, but in the second we had more than twenty! Pretty good turn out for the village, AND, they ALL gave their hearts to Jesus:). Sunday morning, well more like afternoon, we attended the village church service where we were blessed and able to meet more of the elders and members of the congregation. We were asked back by the elders to run a VBS this summer... We're still working on all the logistics, not really sure when or what exactly we'll be doing, but we'll be going back to visit for sure! They offered to take us out on the river when we visit this summer:).
I apolagise, some of the pictures aren't very good. I forgot my camera, so I had to use my phone for all the pictures.
This picture I took during our first service, we had more kids in the second.
Panoramic view of the Minto Flats, the view from the village. Over to the left is where Old Minto is located.
This is the kitchen in the place we stayed. The celings were VERY low, I could touch them, not even standing on my tip toes. You can use Marks height for reference. LOL.
Saturday we went on a walk through the whole village after we held services, the kids got to play on the playground when we were done. Caleb really enjoyed the trip.
This is the only post office in town. No one has mail boxes, they all come to the post office.
Stop on our walk around Minto, Minto Flatts is in the background.
The handmade "plaque" in front of the house we stayed in. It's the old Assemblies of God church that was turned into a parsonage. It's known as the "Prophet House"
We all had our first snow machine rides! In Minto they call a snow machine a "snow go"
Lastly... this is their ownly gas pump in town... and if you can't read that, it's $5.00 a gallon!
WOW, It brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my heart to read that ALL the kids excepted Jesus. Can't wait to hear about your next trip. Where is Minto located, and can you drive there or do you have to fly there?
ReplyDeleteMinto is what is called a road system church, because its on the road system (hehe). Its just about three hours from Fairbanks:). Next trip will be this summer, not exactly sure when... Il'll update when I know:). We've also been invited to visit Heeley, and want to try to visit Barrow, Dillingham, and maybe another village this summer... We'll see what God has planned. We're trying to get lots of experiance in the villages. And each village is different from the last, very interesting culture!:)
